2006 - 2009 - grade 2

2009 - present - grade 3

Hello!  My name is Jaclyn Overbey.  I am a third grade teacher at Fairview Primary.  This is my 15th year of teaching in the district. I am excited to have your child in my classroom!  I was the Jennings School District Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 School Year!  It was an honor to hold that title and to represent the Jennings School District!

In case you didn't know, I call my class the "Champion Classroom!"  And being that I call my students the "Champions", I expect nothing but the best out of my students!  Expectations are set high and I will push and challenge my students in math, reading, writing, science, and social studies.

This year we are very lucky to have additional teaching support in the Champion classroom: Mrs. Semaja Smith (Special Education Teacher), Ms. Brittany Washington (Special Education Teacher Assistant), and Mr. Taylor (Teaching Practicum Student from Ottowa University).  They are all ecstatic to be a part of the 3rd grade team!

In reading, students will be learning power standards.  These are comprehension skills that will help boost your child's understanding of what he/she is reading.

For writing, students will learn the writing cycle.  There are 5 steps to the cycle: plan, draft, revise, edit, publish.  By the end of third grade students will be expected to complete all 5 steps independently!  Students will be writing letters, opinion pieces, narrative stories, and poems.

In math students will challenge their brains with learning money concepts, graphing, adding and subtracting 3-digit numbers, multiplication, fractions, and more!!!

This year we will be engaging in the MySci program for science.  It creates hands-on experiences for students to learn and study various areas of science.

And let's not forget social studies!  We will learn about communities, government, United States History, and our U.S. states!

In third grade, students will be taking the Common Core Assessment.  This is a new assessment for the State of Missouri.  Students will be tested in reading comprehension, language, writing, and math.

I am excited about this school year!  I am ready for lots of teaching and learning!  Go Champions!!!
