Principal

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!  Every May, the staff and I reflect upon the successes and challenges of the year.  We also meet over the summer to make adjustments to ensure that we continue making improvements in the powerful educational opportunities we provide for the students.

The academic theme for Fairview for 2017-2018 is “Reading First.” We are intensifying the expectations and supports for reading instruction. Our teachers have spent time working together to align our practices so that we can ensure that all students are reading “on-grade-level.” We need your support for this very important goal.  Parent modeling and support of the importance of reading is vital for your child’s growth. Watch for additional details of our reading initiative in our quarterly newsletter.

The Jennings theme for the 2017-2018 school year is "Students First: Transforming Schools and Communities." In keeping with that theme, I believe our first priority is to build strong connections between the school and our families.  I want parents to have a voice in how we serve our community.  When you look at the calendar, you will see several opportunities to engage with us as we work to transform the school and community.  Please consider this an open invitation to visit the school, attend school events, and take an active role in your child’s education.

For the 2017-2018 school year, we have some new faces on our staff and a few changes in how staff members are deployed to meet the needs of our students.  Please check the staff list on page four and also join me in welcoming new staff members:

Dr. Mark Davis – Vice Principal

Ms. Sikenna Gunner – 4th Grade Teacher

Mr. Travis Rainey – 5th Grade Teacher

Ms. Korey Lowery – 5th Grade Teacher

Mr. Freddie Jones – Intervention Teacher

Communication is extremely important, and you are encouraged to become familiar with the procedures and guidelines that have been put in place at Fairview Elementary.  If you need answers to questions that you may have concerning your child or the school’s program, please consult this handbook first.  If you have additional questions, please give me a call at (314)653-8070.

I look forward to another year serving you and your children as principal.

Respectfully yours,

Melisha Carson, Ed.S.

Interim Principal
